Robotics Camp
Holding our first camp in 2015, we held our third annual summer Robotics Camp the week of July 17th - 21st, 2017. We had two sessions daily, with one for kids in grades K - 3rd and another for kids in grades 4th - 8th.
Carson High School CTE Career Night
We had our competition robot and test robot on display at the Carson High School CTE Career Night on Wednesday, February 28th, 2018. There were many visitors that came by to try driving our robot.
Eagle Valley Middle School STEAM Night
Held at Eagle Valley Middle School on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018, the STEAM Night was a big success. We demonstrated our robot in the center of the exhibition hall.
Carson City Library STEM Arcade
Along with two FLL teams, the Jedi Engineers and the Aqua Ducks, we demonstrated our robot at the Carson City Library on Thursday, March 22nd, 2018.
Demonstration at Excel Christian School
Along with many other teams, we participated in a demonstration at Excel Christian School on Monday, March 26th, 2018. The purpose was to expose the school to all four FIRST robotics programs (FLL Jr, FLL, FTC and FRC) and encourage them to start robotics teams.
Demonstration at South Valleys Library
We were at the South Valleys Library on Thursday, March 29th, 2018 to participate in an exhibition tournament with other FTC teams. It was fun, with a number of "silly" contest, including driving the robot blindfolded!
Demonstration at FLL Jr EXPO
Northern Nevada had its second FLL Jr EXPO on Saturday, May 5th, 2018, and we were there to demonstrate our robot.
Robotics Camp
We held our fourth annual summer Robotics Camp the week of June 11th - 15th, 2018. We had two sessions daily, with one for kids in grades K - 3rd and another for kids in grades 4th - 8th.
Carson Airport Open House
We demonstrated our robot at the Carson Airport Open House on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018. It was a little hot and windy, but we met many people from the community.
Demonstration at FLL Jr EXPO
We held a car wash as a fundraiser for the team on Saturday, July 7th, 2018. Funds raised from events like this go towards paying our team's registration fees and purchasing robotics parts.
DCSD STEAM Night
We did a demonstration on Tuesday, September 11th, 2019 at the Douglas County School District STEAM Night. Our hope is that some new robotics teams will start in Douglas County.
Reno Mini Maker Faire
We made our second appearance at the Reno Mini Maker Faire on Sunday, October 14th, 2018. We found a lot of like-minded people who enjoy creating things!
Electrical Workshop
We hosted an Electrical Workshop at our school on Saturday, October 20th, 2019. The workshop was led by Jim & Patti Poston, who did an awesome job. At the end, we got a chance to try some hands-on activities, such as making our own PowerPoles.
Reno Mini Maker Faire
We partnered with the Sierra Nevada Junior Optimist International (JOI) Club and participated in a rock climbing fundraiser on Saturday, November 17th, 2019. It was loads of fun — many thanks to the the Optimist Club of Reno and RockSport!
FLL Qualifiers
We volunteered as Referees at the Northern Nevada FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Qualifiers on Saturday, December 1st, 2018 and Saturday, December 8th, 2018. We spending time with the younger kids who are learning about robotics.
New Team Bootcamp Workshop
As part of the Northern Nevada FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) League Meet 3 in Elko on Saturday, January 12th, 2019, one of our team members (Nanami Duncan) partnered with a member (Larson Rivera) of another team (McQueen High School 32 Bit) to conduct a New Team Bootcamp Workshop.
Carson City School Board
After our performance at the Nevada State FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Championship, we were invited to speak at the Carson City School Board meeting on Tuesday, February 26th, 2019.
KOLO 8 TV News Feature
On Wednesday, February 27th, 2019, our team was featured in a story by Josh Little on KOLO 8 TV (ABC) about winning the state championship. It was very exciting to be on TV. We also were featured on other media outlets: KRNV 4 TV (NBC), KRXI 11 TV (FOX), Carson NOW and the Nevada Appeal.
South Valleys Library
On Thursday, February 28th, 2019, we did a demonstration at the South Valleys Library in Reno. Other FTC teams were there to help us show off the robots in mock matches, and later on we allowed the spectators to drive the robots.
Sierra Nevada Robot Showcase
We had ambitious plans this year, and one of our goals was to host an event that would highlight robotics, STEM/STEAM, our high school and Carson City. We called it the Sierra Nevada Robot Showcase, and the first annual event was on Saturday, March 16th, 2019. We hope to do something like this every year and to make it bigger each year. This year, we were able to attract a team (The Hive) from as far away as Utah! The event featured a full FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Jr EXPO, a robot-only FIRST LEGO League (FLL) tournament and a robot-only FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) tournament. We also had food trucks and other exhibitors.
STEAM Camp
We have hosted week-long Robotics Camps each summer for a number of years now, but we had never done a one-day STEAM Camp. Now we have! On Monday, March 18th, 2019, we hosted more than 50 campers for an all-day camp with fun STEAM-related activities!
Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce
On Wednesday, March 20th, 2019, we were honored to be guests of the Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce at a dinner hosted by Dolly Kaur. Dolly is the owner of Flavors of India, the site of the dinner, and she also surprised us with a donation. Additionally, Carson City Supervisor Lori Bagwell was there and presented us with a donation. We are grateful for the community's support!
